Qualification of divorce attorneys
All attorneys must be licensed by the state bar. In general, licensure requires the completion of a course of
study in law, through an accredited law school, plus a favorable background review. Written examinations may be
administered to qualified applicants, in the sole discretion of bar associations. To maintain a license to
practice law, each attorney must abide by Rules of Professional Responsibility and Cannons of Ethics.
Additionally, a course of study through continuing legal education is required annually by each state, which
must be completed through approved courses. Participatory hours must be reported to the bar.
