Divorce Attorneys, Free Power of Attorney
All reputable divorce attorneys provide free power of attorney for review. All potential clients should take
time to read and understand terms before signing. These forms create the attorney-client relationship, and
normally also include additional several related agreements. Pay special attention to retainer agreements and
authorized costs and expenses.
Note when signing power of attorney
All cases filed in court require the payment of a filing fee. Most cases filed require additional expenses,
which may be minor, or in the event of contest, may rise dramatically. Attorneys normally pay expenses on behalf
of clients, and collect reimbursement upon terns set forth in the power of attorney agreement.
Retainers may be refundable or nonrefundable. The reason many attorneys require nonrefundable retainers is
practical: after filing a case, the court rarely allows an attorney to withdraw as record counsel if clients
fail to pay fees. With a nonrefundable retainer, lawyers receive a degree of protection for the obligation to
perform future work in the event of nonpayment. |
