Public Divorce Records

Each case requires a petition, filed with the clerk, before any relief may be granted by the court. Filing begins the process, and petitions and all subsequent pleadings become public divorce records. Public records of divorce proceedings are available free of charge to anyone who inquires. Copies are ordinarily available for a nominal fee. Recently, much needed legislation now redacts personal and/or private information pertaining to minor children.

Certification as a legal specialist is available through state bar associations. Certification is optional for attorneys. All specialists must prove their legal expertise as a highly qualified attorney written examinations and recommendations  from other practicing lawyers. No lawyer is pressured to request the certification, but qualifying for the certification as a legal specialist does strongly suggest the ability to represent clients well. State bar associations also maintain public tribunals to address grievances filed against members. The grievance process and required forms are available without fee to any one requesting assistance.
