Fast Divorce

Fast is relative. In Vegas, fast is a matter of hours. In European countries, fast may require proof of three years of legal separation. Fast only costs money - so how fast do want to go? In all states, even those with no statutory waiting period, a final decree must still be approved by the court after filing. With sworn pleadings and properly signed forms in an uncontested divorce, approval is rarely denied.

Restrictions on divorces

Most major studies prove that longer waiting periods and mandatory counseling before termination result in a higher percentage of reconciliations. All state governments promote the stability of marriage for various social, political, religious and economic reasons. In recent years, Conservative Christians have been the most vocal critics of no fault laws and short waiting periods. They argue the sanctity of marriage and virtue of legislating morals (a violation of the Constitutional mandate requiring the separation of church and state).

Oddly, based on a study performed by the Barna Research Group of St. Louis in 1999, Conservative Christians also produce a significantly higher rate of dissolution than all other denominations surveyed. Responding to sharp criticism, Barna defended it's findings based on 3,854 surveys and claims a sampling error of 2 percent.
