Most state divorce laws restrict the minimum time required to elapse before granting dissolution of a
marriage. A fast divorce may be granted in a mater of days in a few states. More often, 60 to 90 days are
required after filing the petition which is intended as a cool-down period which provides parties an opportunity
to consider reconciliation.
