A recent Harvard study of divorce laws found women's standard of living drops by 27% after a final decree, while men's standard of living improves by 10%. Following marriage and divorce, 75% of all women realize an increase in net worth, while 50% of all men experience a decrease. The average marriage lasts 7.2 years. 75% of all dissolutions are filed by women.

Divorce Laws Provided By Statutes

State divorce laws, whether provided by statutes or court decisions, frequently change as government bodies react to societal changes and political agendas. Family law lawyers must be licensed by the state bar which includes verification of competency in legal analysis of divorce laws, child support regulations and rules of court. Thereafter all family law lawyers must further participate each year in continuing legal education courses that are approved by the state bar. Because of the complex nature of divorce laws and related regulation, each person interested in family law matters should retain qualified, local, legal counsel to review plans and approve all documents before taking any action.
