Divorce Laws, Law Enforcement Divorce Statistics

Following the widespread acceptance of the Uniform Unilateral Divorce Act (1969 - which eased availability of dissolution despite the opposition of a spouse, i.e. no fault laws) , the suicide rate for women dropped 20% while the suicide rate for men remained unchanged. In 2003, approximately 3 million women suffered a serious assault by an intimate partner each year. More than half of all men who abuse women also abuse children.

Divorce Laws Provided By Statutes

Family law lawyers must pass a written examination and background verification before licensure by the state bar.  The examination is designed to insure basic competency, including analysis of divorce law issues, child custody and support issues, and familiarity with the rules of court. Family law lawyers must also complete a minimum annual quota in participatory hours in continuing legal education seminars approved by the state bar. State divorce laws, whether provided by codes, administrative regulation, or judicial opinions, change frequently in response to political and social impact. Because of the complicated structure of divorce law applications, each interested party should consult a family law lawyer prior to taking any legal action.
